On February 22, 2016, Charlotte, North Carolina passed an ordinance (a law by a municipal government) widening the scope of the anti-discriminatory laws. This meant that people who identified as part of the LGBTQ community would be protected in public places and allow transgender individuals to use their choice of bathroom.
Clearly, this was too progressive for the state of North Carolina. It was bad enough that they had lost to Abraham Lincoln and his merry band of Unionists in the American Civil War.
Thus, on March 23 2016, North Carolina passed House Bill 2 (HB2) also known as the Bathroom Bill in a special assembly (one-day specially convened session) of the North Carolina General Assembly. The official name of the bill is the Public Facilities Privacy and Securities Act.
It is interesting that they take years to discuss Obamacare or any other noble initiative but it takes only a month and a specially convened one-day assembly to pass a bill of this magnitude.
I must digress In essence, this law states that transgender individuals must use the washroom whose gender corresponds to that of their birth certificate. What makes this more shocking and repulsive is that Gov. Pat McCrory signed the bill that very night. In addition, Pat McCrory implacable in his “crusade”, has now filed a suit against the Federal Government of the United States of America.
